Just like years past the ASR tradeshow in Long Beach was a drunken sordid, strictly business affair. Hod, Yoches and myself hurriedly sipped our lattés as we opened our briefcases for the first of many meetings. We haggeled over ad prices, double chekd budgets, and smoozed with the best. Yessir if we ain’t businessmen I couldn’t tell you who is….unless they have actual jobs where they go to work and get paid and stuff. Round late afternoon, just when I thought I couldn’t handle looking at more Reef chicks and following the pink crew around, Todd Kline introduced us to the new Quiksilver motor home. This thing is huge and plush, complete with leather seats, ps2 and a queen size bed……and multiple 18packs! The convention center doesn’t start selling alcohol until 4pm so to keep from tearing out our hair, we made ourselves very cozy courtesy of Quiksilver for a good while.
Leaving the motor home, it was a whole new trade show. Some shit happened but most was a blur and then it was time for Natas Kaupas’s movie premiere. Natas is old school skating, the first guy to skate like he was surfing. It’s some crazy shit boy, ill tell ya. If you haven’t seen him skate before you are missing out.
